Wife told me she started hearing a chatter sound on her yukon, it would come
and go.
Found later that it chatters only between 2000 and 2500 rpm.
Sounded like it was coming from the A/C compressor.
Planned on ordering an A/C clutch.
Called my local dealer and talked to service to see if it may be more than a
clutch.
I was told that the problem starts with the Fan Clutch on the Radiator
cooling fan not coming up to speed, causing the A/C head pressure to get too
high, and in turn the compressor can not keep up with the speed of the drive
belt.
They have seen this problem repetively.
If caught early enough we would only need to replace the fan clutch.
Now my wife reports the rear A/C is not working.

Estimated cost to replace A/C compressor and Fan Clutch $1275.00.

Question.

Has anyone in this group heard of this problem before?

I check this newsgroup quite often and have never seen this problem before.

GM: Focus is on health-care costs, Delphi
http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070605/REG/70605…

WILMINGTON, Del. (Reuters) — General Motors’ priorities for this year
include concluding a deal to allow its former parts subsidiary Delphi
Corp. to emerge from bankruptcy and cutting its own health-care costs,
the automaker’s chief executive said today.

"We’ll continue to drive for cost-effective agreements to resolve the
Delphi restructuring and to further reduce our still unsustainable
health-care bill, which was a staggering $4.8 billion in 2006," GM Chief
Executive Rick Wagoner told shareholders in a statement at the start of
the company’s annual meeting.

Separately, Wagoner said in response to a question that GM had not
considered going private like its smaller rival Chrysler Group, which
was acquired in May by Cerberus Capital Management in a $7.4-billion deal.

"At this time, GM has not considered and is not considering going
private," Wagoner said.

GM has been in negotiations with Delphi and the United Auto Workers
union since late 2005 over a range of issues centered on contractual
terms for the unionized work force of the parts supplier as it emerges
from bankruptcy.

Delphi remains GM’s largest supplier and a work stoppage at the company
has been seen as a lingering risk to GM, which estimates its exposure to
Delphi at $7 billion.

GM, like Ford Motor Co. and the Chrysler group, also faces its own
contract talks with the UAW this summer aimed at replacing a four-year
deal on wages, benefits and work terms that expires on Sept. 14.

GM lost an estimated $1,436 for every car sold in North America last
year, and Wagoner said the automaker would be looking to the upcoming
UAW negotiations to increase its cost-competitiveness.

"We’ve made a lot of progress with UAW leadership in the past several
years and we look forward to building on that in upcoming negotiations,"
he said.

Separately, Wagoner said GM is considering restructuring and selling its
medium-duty truck unit.

Wagoner told investors that the automaker is also "looking at offers" to
sell its Allison Transmission subsidiary. GM earlier this year said it
was considering strategic options for the Indianapolis-based division,
which makes transmissions and hybrid propulsion systems for commercial
trucks, buses and military vehicles.

ACCOUNTING ISSUES

CFO Fritz Henderson said GM is "actively addressing" accounting issues
it mentioned in its last annual report. The automaker filed its annual
report in March after a six-week delay, which it blamed on recurring
accounting problems, and said its internal controls on financial
reporting had been ineffective.

GM pledged to tighten its financial controls after twice restating
results and delaying its fourth-quarter report.

"We are actively addressing the issues we identified in the annual
report," Henderson said at the Delaware meeting.

"We have a new controller, a new chief accountant," he said. "We’ve
brought in over 30 accountants since the annual report … to address
the shortage of skilled people."

GM last month said U.S. securities regulators were reviewing its
accounting for foreign exchange and commodity derivatives and said a
similar hedge-related probe into its former finance arm, General Motors
Acceptance Corp., could force it to restate results again.

If I top it off it will freeze you out of the car, but it will drain to
total
ineffectiveness overnight. Thing is, it doesn’t drain out totally, just
to where it doesn’t cool. It still has pressure.

I’ve been pricing condensers. About$120 or so.

Funny how some people spend a good amount of energy trying to discount
global warming.

However, let’s assume global warming does not exist. Everyone!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with conservation and preventing
pollution. Even if you don’t believe in pollution.

The true problem that pushes some of these people is that the left has
hijacked the movement and turned it into socialist drivel.

You and I know the simple minded hicks out there who sit around the dinner
table and yell a quick knee jerk "pollution is not real" when they hear a
story about it on the news arent smart enough to think of their own
solution.

I believe in global warming, polution and conservation. I also believe that
liberals do not have the right answer. I believe a capitalistic friendly
answer can work. I am also glad to call myself one of the smart
conservatives.

Seriously, it is time for conservatives to rid our group of the one
demensional thinking hicks who have the rebel flag hanging off their truck.
Let Howard Dean have them…

The Guardian (London) – June 6, 2007

[A Prius] advertisement asked: "What if all cars were like the Prius?
With its hybrid synergy drive technology, it emits up to one ton less
CO2 per year." On-screen text stated: "1 ton of CO2 less than an
equivalent family vehicle with a diesel engine. Average calculated on
20,000km a year. Toyota Prius: CO2 emissions: 104 grams per kilometer".

The ASA [Advertising Standards authority] agreed the Prius emitted
"significantly less" CO2 than some other cars with greater engine
capacity, but added that "we did not consider their evidence
demonstrated that it emitted one ton less than equivalent vehicles with
diesel engines or that it took into account the average annual distance
driven by private cars in the UK".

Toyota said it had qualified the claim by saying the Prius’s CO2
emissions were "up to" one ton less a year. The firm also provided the
ASA with data comparing the Prius with other cars registered in 2005…

The average CO2 output for a UK car is 170-200 grams per kilometer, but
hybrids can achieve 105 grams per kilometer.
==========
That’s "green"? The eco-bullshit being sprayed by Toyota and airhead
celebrities like Cameron Diaz and Harrison Ford is becoming
intolerable. Look, if you don’t drive AT ALL, then you’re a hell of lot
greener than Prius owners.
