94 Cutlass Intake Manifold Gasket Repaired, Now a Knock

My 3.1L, 120K miles, intake manifold failed and lots of coolant in oil.  Had
it fixed (knowing there could be more problems) and sure enough after only a
couple of hundred miles (or less) there’s a pretty good knock now.  Suspect
a main bushing?

Any sense in having that fixed or is it likely just good money down the
drain?

Absolutely love the car!

Thanks,
Dave

attn Ian. 2001 Chevrolet Impala Park-Brake shift interlock

My mother has a 2001 Impala LS, bought used from Howard Chevrolet in West
Roxbury, MA. Anyways. A month after she bought the car, she found that she
was unable to remove her key. The dealer supposedly adjusted some shift
cable, and sent her on her way. It didn’t work, and she went back and they
replaced the whole shifter assembly. Now, a year later, the problem is
happening again. The dealer again adjusted the cable, and once again, the
problem has not been cured. She is about to bring it in again. She has a
warranty on the vehicle, so this isn’t costing anything but hassle.

Her car also has a problem where the passenger doors will not unlock with
the remote, the car won’t respond to the second press until about 5 seconds
after the first press. I remember someone saying there was a procedure to
replace the speedometer head to fix it. The dealer didn’t seem to know
anything about it.

Anyways, I just wanted to get some more information on these issues, because
the dealer certainly seems to have a hard time doing much anything for her.

97 Bonneville Chuging

I have a 97 Bonneville 3.8 Supercharge. I have been slowly losing the effect
of the supercharger for awhile now but today I felt something different. At
about 4000 RPMs it feels like a governor is coming on. On the highway at
highway speeds it just chugs along. The fuel pressure is fine when it is
hesitating. The air filter has just been replaced, and it doesn’t appear to
be an ignition problem. It seems as if there is too much fuel at high RPMs.
Can anyone help? I’m not sure what to do next.

Thanks in advance

Steve

2 All season with 2 Winter tires a good idea?

I have 2 spare winter tires for my van.    Is it a bad idea to mix two
winter tires with 2 all season tires?    I would put them in the front
(front wheel drive Venture van).

Also, will winter tires improve my stopping distance on icy surface or are
they only good for stopping on snow surface?

1999 Grand Am V6 Spark Plug Removal

Had no difficulty removing the front 3 plugs.

Having a very difficult time removing the 3 rear plugs and wires.  Are
there any tricks?  What should I remove to get easier access to the plugs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cooling Fan behavior on 94' Chevy Corsica 3100

My 94′ Corsica 3100, now heats to about 3/4 all the time when idling, and
works it way back down to 1/2 (thermostat opens?) and it is the dead of
winter here.   The fan does not come on, even if I turn on A/C.  I took it
to my mechanic who did the replace the valve cover and manfold gaskets, and
he told me it is normal.  He had put a new thermostatand cooling sensor on
it, but told me the it is too cold outside for the fan to come on yet even
with the A/C on.  Granted it is 20 degrees out right and has not be above
freezing in a month.  He told me the fan will come on with the A/C and
resume normal operation in the spring and summer.  Wondering if your car is
the same way ?

Thanks

97 Blazer "Shuts off"?

97 Blazer 2door 4.3 V-6 114k miles
Occasionally over the last few month, it seems to "quit" for a second
or so.

This has happened at hightway speeds, in 4th (auto trans, 2WD). When
"it" occurs, the speedo drops towards zero, the other gauges will head
act as if the key is off.. none of the idiot lights come on.. and then
without doing anything it returns to normal. No shake, just a very
short (1 sec? Less?) loss of power.

Once it happened at idle, foot on brake at a traffic light, requiring
a restart. Once it happened in a parking lot while making a turn – car
stalled, steering got hard! Had to restart.

I’ve checked the battery connections, cables, etc. The last electrical
work done by anyone was a replacement alternator installed about 6
months ago. However, it seems to be cranking fine, always starts OK..
lights bright, and the dash volt- meter reads properly.

Thanks!

1990 Buick LeSabre

  Hi!

Just purchased a nice ’90 LeSabre – the driver’s back seat is at too
much of an angle for me to be comfortable – when I tried to adjust the
seat, there was no control that I could find.  My manual says there
should be a manual lever or an eletric control but I can’t find either?!
  Help!

P.S.  - There’s a "button" on the back of the drivers seat that I don’t
know how to operate – I’ve tried pushing, pulling, pressing – by hand, I
guess I’m not strong enough.

Please help1
